Introduction

In nations bordered by the Great Ocean, land ridges jutting towards sea are unique geographical locations. The island nation of Sri Lanka in the middle of the Indian Ocean contains few such locations. Of these, The Point Dondra or Devinuwara, the southernmost point of the island, has a cultural value that goes beyond its geographical value because of the presence of a historical temple dedicated to deity Upulwan which gave it its unique name “Devinuwara” or the City of God, in the middle of that land ridge.
